National Retriever Gundog Championship, Inc. was established to preserve and promote the highest standards of retriever hunt test performance through education, sportsmanship, conservation, and public service. The organization believes that working retrievers represent an important part of America’s sporting heritage and that educating handlers, judges, volunteers, and future generations benefits both the retriever community and the public through responsible stewardship of wildlife resources and ethical sporting practices.

NRGC Excellence in Education Scholarship

The NRGC Excellence in Education Scholarship is awarded by the National Retriever Gundog Championship, Inc. to support graduating high school seniors and individuals pursuing higher education, technical education, vocational training, or continuing education.

The scholarship recognizes individuals who demonstrate academic commitment, integrity, sportsmanship, and a dedication to the traditions of retriever hunt test performance, conservation, and responsible outdoor stewardship.

Scholarship recipients are selected through an objective application and review process established by the Board of Directors. Scholarships are awarded as funding permits in furtherance of the charitable and educational mission of the National Retriever Gundog Championship, Inc.

The National Retriever Gundog Championship, Inc. was incorporated on September 3, 2025, as a Missouri nonprofit public benefit corporation. The organization was established to advance the highest standards of retriever hunt test performance through education, sportsmanship, conservation, scholarships, and national competition.

The founders recognized an opportunity to create a national organization dedicated not only to recognizing excellence in retriever hunt tests, but also to educating handlers, judges, volunteers, and the public while preserving the traditions of the working retriever.

NRGC fulfills its mission by conducting educational programs, administering the NRGC Excellence in Education Scholarship, organizing an annual Qualifying Event and National Retriever Gundog Championship, encouraging volunteer leadership, promoting ethical sporting practices, and supporting wildlife conservation.

The organization operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes and expects to be supported through membership dues, event entry fees, sponsorships, charitable contributions, and fundraising activities.
